Microsoft explains how Xbox Game Studios titles will be supported by Steam Deck.

There is no support for Halo, Gears 5, or Microsoft Flight Simulator X.

The Steam Deck is perhaps the greatest pre-built PC ever produced, with power that often outperforms considerably more costly pre-built desktop gaming PCs. The tiny PC runs Valve's SteamOS, but today they disclosed complete Windows support on Steam Deck through a set of custom drivers. (If you want one for yourself, you should know that Orders for new Steam Decks will not be shipped until at least October).

Indeed, Microsoft and Valve are becoming increasingly amicable, with Xbox launching all of its major titles to Steam. Since Microsoft purchased Bethesda, the company has indicated that it will close its own launcher and transition entirely to Steam. Valve CEO Gabe Newell also stated that the company would want to collaborate with Microsoft to offer native support for Xbox Game Pass on Steam Deck.

Today, Microsoft provided an update on its support for Valve's Steam Deck. Most Xbox Game Studios titles will work on the Steam Deck, although Microsoft has said that Gears 5, Halo: The Master Chief Collection, Halo Infinite, and Microsoft Flight Simulator X are not supported. Due to anti-cheat mechanisms, some titles do not work on the Steam Deck, and it is unclear whether they will be supported in the future.

Microsoft has designated eight titles as "Verified," and another six as "Playable." The difference in the two can be as little as a warning displaying or needing to use a simulated touchscreen to enter text during a game. While some are now merely on the playable list, they may soon be promoted to verified status.

Microsoft's list only includes Xbox Game Studios titles that are presently available on Steam, but you can now install Windows on your Steam Deck to gain access to Xbox Game Pass games. Valve has recently published Windows drivers, so Steam Deck owners may now make the transition. Last month, Valve CEO Gabe Newell applauded Microsoft's decision to debut Xbox Game Pass on Steam, stating he's "more than glad to work with them to get it on Steam."

The following is the complete list of Xbox Game Studios games on Steam Deck:

Verified:

  • Deathloop
  • Psychonauts 2
  • Hellblade: Senua’s Sacrifice
  • The Evil Within
  • Fallout Shelter
  • Prey
  • Battletoads
  • Max: The Curse of Brotherhood

Playable:

  • Sea of Thieves
  • Fallout 4
  • Forza Horizon 5
  •  Forza Horizon 4
  • Quantum Break
  • State of Decay: YOSE

Unsupported:

  • Gears 5
  • Halo: The Master Chief Collection
  • Halo Infinite
  • Microsoft Flight Simulator X

The Steam Deck is perhaps the most intriguing gaming console in a long time, and it will be fascinating to see how Valve and Microsoft continue to grow their cooperation in the coming months. It comes to reason that many of the finest forthcoming Xbox titles will be supported right out of the box, allowing you to carry your Xbox games with you everywhere you go. That is, assuming you can get your hands on a Steam Deck. They are presently on backorder till the end of 2022.
