Back in 2020, a rumour stated that Chrome OS will soon acquire Steam functionality, codenamed “Project Borealis”, to let you play famous games on your Chromebooks. Although the concept was good, it did not materialise until today. Surprisingly, during the "Google for Games Developer Summit 2022," the firm unveiled a new Steam Alpha programme for Chrome OS, allowing people to play genuine games on their Chrome.
A presenter at the 2022 Google for Games Developer Summit casually unveiled the Steam for Chrome OS alpha programme, stating it to have "just debuted.". Google has worked in partnership with Valve to bring Steam to supported Chromebooks. According to Google's Chromebook community forum, the firm plans to release "an early, alpha-quality version of Steam" on Chromebooks shortly. It will be available in Chrome OS's Dev channel at first, and only a small number of Chromebook users will be able to access it.
However, it does not appear to be available on the web just yet. As Ron Amadeo noted out in a tweet, Google has directed users to the Chromebook community forums to learn more, however it has yet to be updated with installation instructions.
