Nintendo Chief Verifies Plans to Introduce the Switch 2 This Fiscal Year: What to Anticipate

The Nintendo Switch, a beloved gaming console by Nintendo, seamlessly transitions between home console and handheld modes, allowing gamers to enjoy their favorite titles anywhere. It garnered immense popularity among gaming enthusiasts.

Recently, Nintendo announced plans to unveil the successor to the Switch by March 2025, disclosed during an investor meeting. Speculations abound about the next-gen console, with expectations of enhanced processing power and graphics.

Nintendo's President, Furukawa, revealed the news via the company's official X account, stating that while a Nintendo Direct in June will outline the Switch's upcoming software lineup, details about its successor won't be included.

Despite the anticipation, Nintendo hasn't divulged specifics or launch dates for the new console. Initially slated for a year-end release, the Switch 2's announcement is now slated for March 2025.

During the fiscal year 2024, Nintendo disclosed their latest earnings, reporting sales of 15.7 million units of the hybrid home-portable Nintendo Switch from April 2023 to April 2024. This boosted the lifetime sales of the original Nintendo Switch to 141.32 million units. However, projections for this year indicate a decline in software unit sales, aiming for around 165 million units, a 17% decrease from the previous year.

Insiders suggest that the upcoming Switch 2 may largely follow the same blueprint as its predecessor, focusing on maintaining its successful features. However, Nintendo aims to bolster its gaming library significantly this time around.
