Lightfall is a game in Destiny 2. Preloading Information: Install Size Confirmed, Server Downtime Scheduled

Destiny 2: Lightfall will be available in just a few days. It will be released on Tuesday, February 28, and will include all of the new changes, content additions, and core-experience tweaks that Bungie usually includes with new expansions. Servers will be unavailable for a full day prior to the expansion's release, but Lightfall preloading will be available during that time. We also know how much storage space you'll need to have set aside so you can prepare for Lightfall during your downtime.

Destiny 2: Lightfall will be released in just a few days. It will be released on Tuesday, February 28, and, as with previous expansions, Bungie will prepare the game for an influx of new content, tweaks, and changes to the core experience. To prepare for all of this, Destiny 2 servers will be taken offline for an entire day, during which Lightfall preloading will be available. We now have a better idea of how much storage space Lightfall will require.

Downtime on Destiny 2 servers and Lightfall preload times

Destiny 2 will be taken offline for 24 hours on February 27 at 9 a.m. PT / 12 p.m. ET. You'll have until then to complete any remaining seasonal objectives as Season of the Seraph comes to an end, because once the downtime begins, you won't be able to play Destiny 2 until the servers are back up and running in time for the release of Lightfall. Season of the Seraph (and all previous year's seasonal content) will be removed from the game at that time.

February 27 preloading times:

  • 9 AM PT
  • 12 PM ET
  • 5 PM GMT
  • 4 AM AET (February 28)

Lightfall install size

The developer warns that the Destiny 2 download file will be quite large, but the game will have a smaller footprint on your SSD and will have faster loading times. Lightfall preloading will be available during this time.

However, Bungie has advised that Lightfall would require around 80 GB of additional capacity to download for those using the PS4 version (including those using that version on a PS5). After the installation is finished, old files will be deleted, but preloading necessitates having both the new and old files accessible. Players on Windows are in an even worse scenario because preloading the game requires more than 223GB of free space on Steam and the Epic Games Store. On the PS5, Xbox Series X|S, and PC, the problem is less critical. Thanks to Bungie's support page, the following is a complete summary:

PlayStation 5

  • Install Size: 102.6 GB*
  • Storage Space Needed for Pre-Load: 102.6 GB

Xbox Series X|S

  • Install Size: 108.59 GB
  • Storage Space Needed for Pre-Load: 108.59 GB

PlayStation 4

  • Install Size: 88.21 GB*
  • Storage Space Needed for Pre-Load: 184.64 GB

Xbox One

  • Install Size: 89.21 GB
  • Storage Space Needed for Pre-Load: 89.21 GB

Steam

  • Install Size: 102.60 GB*
  • Storage Space Needed for Pre-Load: 233.2 GB

Epic Games Store

  • Install Size: 101.51 GB
  • Storage Space Needed for Pre-Load: 223.3 GB

Microsoft Store

  • Install Size: 102.13 GB
  • Storage Space Needed for Pre-Load: 102.13 GB
In other Destiny 2 news, daily Deepsight weapon focusing is now available, and once Season 20 kicks out, lovers of the linear fusion rifle should get ready to pour one out for their preferred power weapon. These precise weapons will receive some significant nerfs from Bungie, including a 15% reduction in damage against Champions, mini-bosses, bosses, and vehicles.

This nerf only applies to Exotic Heavy Linear Fusion Rifles. New Exotics will be available in Season 20, and several of these lethal weapons will have skills that relate to the brand-new Strand subclass.
