The publisher of PUBG, has joined up with Solana Labs to create blockchain and NFT-based games.

On Wednesday, video game developer Krafton announced a collaboration with Solana Labs that might introduce non-fungible tokens (NFTs) to its popular battle-royale game PlayerUnknown's Battlegrounds (PUBG).According to a news release, Krafton's objectives for the Solana Labs alliance include the "creation and operation of blockchain and NFT-based games and services."

The collaboration comes little over a month after Krafton declared its ambition to enter the blockchain gaming space, stating that it will collaborate with Naver Z to establish "a new Web 3.0 and non-fungible token (NFT) initiative targeted at building an NFT metaverse platform."

PUBG is one of the most popular downloaded games on the Steam platform, with tens of millions of active players; it was claimed that as many as 696,000 active users were playing continuously in early 2022. The game is only second in popularity to Epic Games' Fortnite in the battle-royale genre.

“Krafton will continuously see ways to work closely with blockchain companies like Solana Labs as we work toward establishing our Web 3 ecosystem,” HyungChul Park, lead of Krafton’s Web 3 division, said in the press release. “Solana represents the best of the Web 3.0 ecosystem and its technologies. Through this cooperation, Krafton will acquire the insight needed to accelerate its investment in and output of blockchain-based experiences.”
