Epic and Lego have joined together to create a metaverse for children.

Epic Games, the creators of Fortnite, announced today a collaboration with Lego to create a children's metaverse. The corporations claim that they will design the future of the metaverse to make it safe and enjoyable for children, while also creating an immersive digital environment for children to play in.

While the corporations did not go into specifics about their intentions for this virtual world, they did describe three principles that they believe would assure the safety of the digital areas they create. The two will collaborate to prioritise children's safety and well-being, protect children's privacy, and provide children and adults with tools that offer them control over their digital experience.

"For nearly a century, the LEGO Group has captivated the imagination of children and adults through creative play, and we are excited to come together to build a space in the metaverse that is fun, entertaining, and made for kids and families," Epic CEO and founder Tim Sweeney said in a press release.

Sweeney has previously stated that he views the metaverse as a type of online playground where users may play games like Fortnite and watch Netflix movies together.

Epic stated in today's announcement that the digital experience will be family-friendly and will allow youngsters to become self-assured artists. The corporations intend to pool their resources to ensure that the future generation of the internet is created with children's safety in mind. There is no indication on how the virtual environment would appear or when the two corporations intend to deploy it.

"Kids like playing in both the digital and real worlds and move smoothly between the two," stated Lego EO Niels B CChristiansen in a news statement. "We think that digital experiences have the potential to help students develop lifelong abilities such as creativity, cooperation, and communication." But it is our obligation to make them safe, inspiring, and valuable to everyone."

There is no precise description of the "metaverse" yet, mostly because it does not exist, but it is widely regarded as a network of virtual places that will enable new methods for people to communicate online. The concept of the metaverse is already proving dangerous to youngsters, forcing Epic and Lego to build substantial precautions around their proposed virtual environment.

Epic and Lego join a slew of other firms attempting to create their own versions of a metaverse.

Meta, formerly known as Facebook, is primarily focused on constructing the metaverse and has even altered its corporate identity to reflect its future intentions. Last September, the corporation launched a $50 million fund for research to guarantee that the metaverse is constructed properly. Since then, the firm has doubled down on its metaverse aspirations, even cancelling its F8 developer conference yesterday, stating that it intends to focus its efforts on constructing the metaverse.

Niantic, the company behind Pokémon Go, has also revealed its aspirations to create the "real-world metaverse." Last November, the firm secured $300 million at a $3 billion valuation, stating that the funds will be used to build a real-world metaverse that would employ technology to bring people closer to the outside world.
