A Kirby song cover has recieved a Grammy.

Kirby is a Grammy Award winner in spirit, at least. Charlie Rosen and Jake Silverman won a Grammy for their rendition of Meta Knight's Revenge from the 1996 classic Kirby Superstar, thanks to the pink, spherical monster. The 8-Bit Big Band, a 30- to 65-piece orchestra specialising in putting its own stamp on video game music, played the arrangement.

The 8-Bit Big Band has previously played Zelda's Lullaby from Ocarina of Time, Fourside from Earthbound, Big Blue from F-Zero, and a variety of other songs. In the clip above, you can hear the group's rendition of the revised Meta Knight's Revenge - it's a jazzy twist on the original music that, dare I say, sounds even better than Nintendo's recreation included in Super Smash Bros.

Video game music isn't regularly nominated for Grammys, but with the recent release of Kirby and the Forgotten Land, this award is especially appropriate. After being re-released as a separate album, the song Baba Yetu from Civilization IV received a Grammy in 2011. Journey was nominated for best scoring soundtrack for visual media in 2012, but The Girl with the Dragon Tattoo won the award.
