After 5 year For Honor is getting cross-play

For Honor will receive cross-play on March 17, nearly five years after its initial release, Ubisoft announced on Thursday. The new cross-play initiative will be introduced in two stages, the first of which will occur at the start of the game's year six plans. Phase two is currently in development, and Ubisoft has not specified a release date.

The first phase of cross-play combines all PC, PlayStation, and Xbox players' matchmaking pools. This should speed up matchmaking, though Ubisoft warns that players will need to play a few games to reestablish their skill rating. Voice chat will also be disabled for all cross-play matches, though Ubisoft plans to reintroduce it later.

While phase one should result in a healthier For the Honor community, phase two will most likely include the features that players are most eager to try: Join cross-play groups with your friends. Even if cross-play is enabled on March 17, players will be unable to play with their friends on different platforms and will have to wait for phase two to be completed.

The blog post makes no mention of cross-progression or saves, which are already being requested by players in Ubisoft's comment section.
